On behalf of Learn Telford, Family Learning, we would like to congratulate Donnington Wood Junior School on receiving a Midlands Award in recognition of the work they do for vulnerable families attending their school.
We are proud to have worked with the school’s parents and children for the past 8 years and to have provided the opportunity for them to take part in our fun, free Family Learning courses.
Over the years we have delivered an array of subjects/courses ranging from Family Crafts and Cooking on a Budget courses for parent and their child, to accredited qualifications for the parents to upskill and improve their prospects for entering the field of work and volunteering. Family Learning primarily exists to support these parents and families and we have many success stories that have come from our work with Donnington Wood Juniors. We aim to break down those barriers and raise aspirations through offering courses that are supportive, enjoyable with all resources provided and placing the right tutor into that setting. Our Family Learning tutors are highly skilled in not only their subject area but also great with both parents and children. They are warm, inviting and can meet and converse with people from all backgrounds and levels.
Mrs Ganderton and her team at the school work tirelessly to support our provision and they are the link to recruiting the families on to the courses. There are often challenges faced along the way with, but we have found that the ongoing support from the school alongside Mr Fox’s enthusiasm that parents really enjoy coming in to work with their children and build their own confidence.
