We are officially launching our the consultation of the RSE The Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education.

I will share this through parent pay letter next week.

Please read the Policy and ask any questions through parent pay.

One that has already been asked is around the Sex Education part:

Sex Education

The DfE Guidance 2019 (p.23) recommends that all primary schools ‘have a sex education programme tailored to the age and the physical and emotional maturity of the pupils.

However, ‘Sex Education is not compulsory in primary schools’. (p. 23)

Schools are to determine the content of sex education at primary school. Sex education ‘should ensure that both boys and girls are prepared for the changes that adolescence brings and – drawing on knowledge of the human life cycle set out in the national curriculum for science – how a baby is conceived and born’.

At Donnington Wood CofE Junior School, we believe children should understand the facts about human reproduction before they leave primary school. We define Sex Education as understanding human reproduction and we intend to teach this as part of our PSHE curriculum.

Week Ending 12/3/21

What an amazing week it has been! We are delighted with the way the children have settled in to our daily routines, and how they have been completing great work and engaging with friends and staff again. We are so thankful for your support during this time, and we are proud of how you trust us with your children.

Collection and Drop Off

Thank you for your patience this week as we learn a new system for collection at the end of the day. Our priority is the safety of every child, and this system is working to improve that safety.

At home time, we will continue with the one-way system for those collecting children as this maximizes safety for all our pupils.

Actions from our review:

  • We need to leave a gap for pupils leaving and adults arriving. We have very narrow gates and sometimes you will need to wait for other children to exit. We aim to bring everyone out as safely as we can, as this is our priority.
  • Matting for the grass has been ordered but has yet to arrive. Please continue to be careful walking on the grass.
  • Children who walk home on their own, especially from the main gate. Although Mr. Bailey and I are often out on duty, we cannot guarantee an adult will be there to meet them. Therefore, when deciding that your child walks home on their own please ensure they know where to go, what to do, and can do it safely. Year 5s who walk on their own may come out slightly before 2:35pm, as we will bring them out as soon as the road is clear.
  • Bad Weather– if it is torrential rain, wind, snow etc. we will bring the children out just before collection is due. Currently we are coming out earlier at 2:25 to rehearse the routine. If the weather is bad, we will come out just before the designated time. Please make sure you arrive on time to collect them and that your child has a coat.
  • Covid rates in Telford and our local area are still high. When this decreases, we will look to review our procedures again.

Finally, it is lovely to welcome parents through our gates again. I can’t believe it has been nearly a year that we last saw you all on site!

RED NOSE DAY

We will be fundraising and taking part in Red Nose Day this year on Friday, March 19th. All children are invited to come in ‘mufti’ (own clothes)- red items if possible. We cannot accept cash so please donate each pupil’s 50p contribution directly to our parent pay site or to the Red Nose Campaign. World Book Day Friday 26th March

We will be celebrating World Book Day in our school on 26th March (please note this is later than advertised and different from other schools). On that Friday, pupils are invited to come in dressed as their favourite book character. There is no pressure to buy special costumes as we welcome creativity and imagination. We have been waiting to make this annual event special and we will put on special reading events in school throughout the day.

Parents/ Carers Evening and progress reports.

Family SeeSaw is the primary place for you to regularly see what your child is learning and how they are making progress. We are unique in that parents can read and comment on their child’s work directly using this app. Over 95% of our families are linked in to SeeSaw. If you are not, we will resend the code to your Parent Pay email address or telephone number- please follow the link.

Before Easter, we will send out a brief progress report detailing your child’s areas of strength, progress made so far and their learning targets for the Summer term. This will help you support your child further. As part of this progress report there will also be an opportunity to book a 5-minute telephone meeting with your class teacher. We will let you know how to book a time slot nearer the time. During the recent lockdown, we know many of you found regular phone calls between you and staff useful, certainly as on-site face-to-face meetings are not allowed.

Holy Week 2021

We are disappointed we will not be able to present our traditional Easter production this year. Nevertheless, all children will be reading and rewriting the story of the Three Trees. This story links with the Christian stories of Jesus’s life and death on a cross. Look out for their creative writing on SeeSaw. As a Church School, this is a very important time for us to celebrate and we will be exploring more of the Holy Week and Easter story in classes during the last week of term.

Monday 8th Reopening

Good Morning All,

We are busy getting the school ready for reopening on Monday 8th March. There is lots of information here, but start with the Letter 2 Details. This summarises everything you need to know.

Three points I want to share.

  1. If you are unwell, get tested: Donnington Results are really quick!
  2. Get a Lateral Flow test for your family and use them twice a week.

By collecting a home test kit from a PCR test site

You can collect up to 4 home test kits at a local collection point. Each kit contains 7 tests.

Collection points in Telford & Wrekin are located at the PCR testing centres, tests can be collected between 1pm and 7pm there is no need for an appointment you can just turn up. We are lucky that we have Donnington Wood Bowling Club, School Road, Donnington (Telford) TF2 8HU

If you cannot get tested at your workplace, or are unable to go to a test site or collect test kits, you can order a home test kit online.

Do not order online if you can get a test through other methods. This frees up home delivery for those who need it most.

Free Lateral Flow Tests

Rapid lateral flow testing for households and bubbles of school pupils and staff

Around 1 in 3 people with coronavirus (COVID-19) do not have symptoms but can still pass it on to others. Regular testing of people without symptoms (asymptomatic testing) is important to help stop the virus spreading. As lockdown restrictions gradually ease, we all need to play our part to help protect each other.

On Sunday 28 February 2021, the Department of Health and Social Care announced that from Monday 1 March 2021, households with primary school, secondary school and college age children, including childcare and support bubbles, can test themselves twice every week at home as schools return from Monday 8 March 2021. Households, childcare and support bubbles of primary, secondary and college staff can also be tested. Twice-weekly testing will also be offered to adults working in the wider school community, including bus drivers and after school club leaders. The twice-weekly test kits can be accessed:

Via employers if they offer testing to employees
Some employers may be offering lateral flow testing, please check with you employer to see if this option is available to you.
For example: If a member of a household provides works for a business offering Lateral Flow Testing then that business may provide the tests for that household member.

Take a test at a rapid lateral flow test site

You can have a rapid lateral flow test at a local site. Testing at these sites is assisted, which means you will swab yourself under the supervision of a trained operator.

You may need to book an appointment.

Reopening

Dear Parents and Carers,

Following the announcement yesterday the school is working hard on getting ready to reopen on the 8th March.

We are aiming to share more information this week, but this is reliant on government updates.

While we prepare for return please can you support your child to get back into good day/work routines, and sleep patterns. If you need help, please ask.

Please continue to get test if any symptoms develop.

Staff will ring you next week to further discuss.

If you have borrowed tablets or dongles these will need to be returned.

If you have borrowed laptops, these can be borrowed for a bit longer.

We will continue using SeeSaw work as our primary learning tool, allowing you to see your child’s progress through Family SeeSaw.
