From the church and feedback for year 3

On behalf of the volunteers who led yesterday’s Experience Easter for the children, I would like to say what a pleasure it was for all of us. We hope they enjoyed the sessions as much as we did!

The behaviour was exemplary and the children’s enthusiasm was so encouraging; you, and their parents, must be very proud of them.

I should be very grateful if you would kindly pass on our thanks to Mr Rawson, the class teachers, support staff and, most of all, the children; we hope to see them again soon. I’m sure you will agree that such collaboration benefits both Church and school communities and I would like to thank you for your continued support too.

Behaviour Refresh

Each term we evaluate behaviour in our school, and as we are half way we want to remind all parents and pupils about the expectations for behaviour, the rewards and sanctions. This term we want to focus on respect — this is very true when a child becomes dysregulated and the language or actions they use. However, it is also important to remind parents about their interaction with the school. School staff do not tolerate any abusive behaviour.

Key principles
We ask all children to be-

Our school rules encapsulate these key principles of being ready for learning, respectful to everyone and staying safe at all times
Our Main School Rules (Golden Rules)

  • We listen to and follow all adult instructions (safe, ready and respectful)
  • We treat others with respect and understanding (respectful)
  • We listen when others are speaking and to others points of view (ready and respectful)
  • We do not hurt others through words or actions (respectful and safe)
  • We take responsibility for our own actions and do not blame others (ready and respectful)

Summary of Behaviour Management at Donnington Wood
Our behaviour policy is built on creating a happy, secure and safe environment in which children learn to show mutual respect and understanding throughout the school day.
Core Expectations

  • All pupils are expected to follow a shared set of Whole School Rules, including listening to adults, treating others with respect, and not hurting others with words or actions.
  • Pupils are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for managing their own behaviour.

Approach to Behaviour Management

  • Staff act as positive role models, treating every child with dignity. Adults do not shout, humiliate, embarrass, or label children. Instead, concerns are addressed calmly and privately. We use the animals of regulation to label the emotion: Animals of Regulation – Script by Charissa Fry.
  • Positive behaviour is actively rewarded to reinforce good choices.
  • Inappropriate behaviour is dealt with quickly and consistently, ensuring pupils understand the impact of their actions.

Behaviours That Will Not Be Tolerated
The school has a zero‑tolerance approach to:

  • Refusal to follow reasonable instructions
  • Dishonesty or stealing
  • Bullying of any kind, including cyberbullying
  • Racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other harassment
  • Verbal or physical aggression
  • Abusive or foul language
  • Damage to property (as part of respect)

Respect During Dysregulation
When a child becomes dysregulated, respect remains a core expectation. Staff support pupils to regulate, recover and reflect — but harmful language or actions, such as vandalism, are still addressed through the behaviour system.
Expectations for Parents and Carers
The policy also makes it clear that all members of the school community — including staff — have the right to work without fear of verbal or physical aggression.
This means:

  • Staff must be treated with respect at all times.
  • Abusive, aggressive or intimidating behaviour from adults will not be tolerated.

A strong, respectful partnership between home and school helps children feel safe and supported, especially when learning to manage their emotions.
Our Home school Agreement also sets out expectations.

We are trailing the use of Arbor to inform you of reflection and sanction. This will help you support the schools behaviour at home, by being informed about when reflections are given.

End of Term Letter – Spring 2026

Spring Term is moving incredibly quickly, and before the final 3 weeks become even busier, I wanted to share some important updates.

This has been a wonderful term. We have supported two fantastic charities — the NSPCC and the Air Ambulance — and our Values Champions are already thinking of additional ways we can help our community.

It has been lovely to see the bulbs the children planted in September and October now growing and flourishing around school.

Reading and Times Tables continue to be whole‑school priorities, and we are grateful for your support at home.

Wrap Around Care

Our Wrap Around Care provision has now launched.

🌱 Governor Vacancies – Help Our Pupils Grow and Flourish

We are looking for people who want to make a real difference to children’s lives and help our school continue to grow, flourish and thrive. Governors play a vital role in shaping the direction of the school, supporting leaders, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. If interested, please message the school.

We meet three times a year on Tuesday mornings, with school visits arranged flexibly to fit around your commitments. You don’t need experience in education — just enthusiasm, curiosity, and a commitment to our pupils.

Co‑opted Governor (1 vacancy)

We welcome interest from members of the parish, local residents, community groups, and local businesses. This role is ideal for someone who wants to use their skills to support children’s learning, wellbeing and opportunities.

Parent Governor (1 vacancy)

If you are a parent or carer and want to represent the parent community, you may wish to stand in our upcoming parent governor election. Your insight and experience as a parent are invaluable in shaping the school’s future.

Safeguarding Commitment

Safeguarding is a key part of the governor role. All successful candidates will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check before appointment.

Easter Concert

year 5 Lead our Easter concert (see Below). We aim to host an Easter Tombola, If you can, please can you Dontate an Easter Egg for our end of term Tombola.

    • World Book Day & Mad Hatter’s Tea Party (1:45–2:30pm, gates close at 2pm) Walk around to classes to collect then continue around to the hall. Exit via front door.
    • Selected Year 5 & 6 pupils – Football Event at Lilleshall
  • Monday 9th March: Selected Year 5 visit to Newport Girls’ School
  • Tuesday 17th March: Year 3 – Experience Easter at St Matthew’s
  • Friday 20th March: We will not be taking part in Red Nose Day this year, as pupils chose to raise money for the Air Ambulance instead
  • Tuesday 24th March: Year 5 & 6 Shakespeare Workshops – A Midsummer Night’s Dream
  • Thursday 26th March: Year 5 lead the Easter Concert – The Three Trees (1:45pm) and Easter Tombola. 
  • Friday 27th March: Last Day of Term

April

  • Tuesday 14th April: Return to school after Easter (school closed Monday 13th)
  • Monday 20th April: Year 6 Swimming begins (separate letter to follow)
  • Week Beginning 20th April: Whole‑school Wellbeing Event (awaiting confirmation)

Staffing Updates

We are delighted to welcome back Mrs Poyner, and we say a warm thank you and goodbye to Miss Jones. Class 3J will now become 3P.

Miss Price is currently off work, and Miss O’Shea continues to do a fantastic job leading and inspiring the class.
