HAPPY 60Th Birthday to the school!

Donnington Wood C.E Junior Golden Jubilee.

Donnington Wood C.E Junior Diamond Jubilee

On the 13th July 1966 our school was officially opened and dedicated by the Bishop of Lichfield. Therefore we will be celebrating our Golden Jubilee this July. The purpose of our celebrations is to be ‘proud of our past; prepared for our future.’

To celebrate our birthday we have uploaded photos to our website from the last 60 years (and some from the original Donnington Wood School) and will be digitally publishing many of our written records, including: registers from the 1850’s (original school), the punishment book and notes from early governors’ meetings.

Happy Birthday to the School 16th July 1966- 60 years old!!!

  1. I have mostly happy memories of my school days but how different from todays classrooms and learning experience.

Ink wells and ink monitors, practicing copperplate writing, reciting times tables, frozen 1/3 pint milk bottles defrosting

on radiators (I hate warm milk) toilets across the playground (very draughty and the water in them froze in winter so everything

stayed on top. Very smelly). I recall sobbing through one lunchtime while a teacher stood over me making me eat

mashed potato and swede (I still won’t eat it).

I think the cane was a very strong incentive to be good thankfully that was just for the boys but I remember a ruler across

    the palm of my hand.
