Beam continues to provide emotional well-being support to young people in Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.

Support should be requested via our website: users should scroll down to ‘register with us’ and complete the form that follows. Please note – the ‘register with us’ link should also be used to request follow-up sessions. Requests for service will be processed by our admin team and then appointments sent out by email.

We provide support by phone, virtual sessions via MS Teams and limited face to face sessions from our Wellington venue. We are strictly appointment-only and cannot accept any walk-ins. Once a request for service is received via the website, we will arrange a phone appointment for our initial contact, in which our practitioners will discuss the format of future sessions.

We are in the process of updating our service promo items – we will send these out in due course.

Family Learning – Fun with Garden Crafts

Please can you send this information out to parents. Can you also print a few copies off (20) and I will get them sent out to our vulnerable families.

Good Morning,

Last term we ran an on-line Summer Crafts course which included some of the learners from your schools.

As the learners enjoyed the course so much, we decided to continue onto a Fun with Garden Crafts course after Half Term.

The on-line course is completely FREE and all resources will be provided. This time around we are hoping to embed some numeracy and literacy techniques that parents can use with their child.

I know that it is short notice, as the course starts on 10th June, but please follow the joining instructions on the leaflet attached.

Kind Regards

Miss Ganderton

BEAM

Update from BEAM emotional health and well-being drop-in service

With the restrictions easing, we thought it would be useful to update as to how Shropshire Telford & Wrekin BEAM will be operating.

We do not have any plans to re-open as a drop-in service currently. We will continue to offer telephone call backs as well as virtual face to face appointments. All support should be requested via the BEAM website.

You may be aware we are offering limited face to face appointments from our Wellington venue. These are strictly on an appointment-only basis. As you can imagine, these are in high-demand given the limited slots we have, particularly the after-school appointments. To ensure as many face to face sessions can be offered as possible, we will be booking appointments during school time.

Workshops for parents and carers

We are pleased to let you know we are now offering virtual sessions for parents & carers around common emotional well-being topics. These sessions aim to help parents & carers support their young people at home. The sessions are detailed below, and do not need to be booked. Please share with those you feel may benefit.

Supporting children & young people who show anxious behaviours.

This will cover:

· What anxiety is.

· The science of anxiety.

· How can you support your young person,

· The opportunity for questions and answers with our practitioners at the end.

Date available:

· Wednesday 26 May 2021 at 1.00pm – Microsoft Teams Meeting – Click here to join the meeting

We will be adding a two-part Sleepy Heads workshop in the coming weeks, as well additional dates for the sessions listed above.

As always, if you have any queries about Shropshire Telford & Wrekin Beam, please do get in touch by email to shropshirebeam

From Parent Zone for Online Safety

OLLEE
Ollee is a digital friend, developed alongside BBC Children in Need to help young children (8-11 years old) understand those big feelings and start conversations with parents. Children can use the app to share worries, get advice, and learn how to talk about feelings with someone they trust. We also have free downloadable support packs for schools and organisations

SUPPORT DIRECTORY
We have a whole directory of services to support families and children with issues from online safety to gambling. This includes mental health services tailored to different age ranges, to help the whole family.

FREE PARENT SESSION: CYBERBULLYING
Thanks to smart devices and social media, bullying can follow children home from the playground. We know it’s a big worry for parents. Our Be Internet Legends programme in partnership with Google offers free live parent sessions with tips and advice for parents. This Cyberbullying session can be watched at any time and you can also let parents know about any upcoming live sessions.
