Dear Parents and Carers,
This year at Donnington Wood we are focusing on the key foundational skills that help all children succeed. To support this, your child will receive a structured homework menu each week.
When and How
- Homework is set every Friday and due Thursday of the following week.
- Tasks arrive on paper or digitally. Logins for Seesaw (and any other apps) will be shared before the first digital homework is issued.
- While tasks can be completed independently, they have the greatest impact when an adult supports—especially with spelling drills or times-table games.
What to Expect
- English
• Weekly spelling lists
• Reading every day – pupils should every day (many different things not just books). Reading records are kept in school for them to fill in what they have read. - Maths
• Times-tables practice
• Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs) - Extension Projects will be shared once a term (termly themes) These projects deepen historical knowledge and explore how communities live and work together.
• Year 3 – Victorians
• Year 4 – Romans
• Year 5 – Egyptians
• Year 6 – Mayans
Support and Rewards
- Every completed homework task earns 1 Class Dojo point each week.
- Spelling and times-table checks take place each Friday in class.
- Rainbow Room drop-in sessions are available at playtime and lunchtime, Monday–Thursday, for any pupil needing extra help.
- For fun, interactive practice, please explore the BBC Bitesize spelling and maths games.
We value your partnership in reinforcing these essential skills at home. If you have any questions about the homework programme, logins, or need additional support, please contact your child’s class teacher.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Fox
