New winter package to provide further support for children and families

Information from the Government.

New winter package to provide further support for children and families

Yesterday, the Government announced a new £170m Covid Winter Grant Scheme. This funding will be ring-fenced, with at least 80% earmarked to support with food and bills and will cover the period to the end of March 2021.

Local authorities will receive the funding at the beginning of December 2020.

This scheme will allow local authorities to support the hardest-hit families and individuals, as well as provide food for children who need it over the holidays. Local authorities understand which groups need support, and are best placed to ensure appropriate holiday support is provided, which is why they will distribute the funds, rather than schools, who will continue providing meals for disadvantaged children during term-time.

The Holiday Activities and Food Programme, which has provided healthy food and enriching activities to disadvantaged children since 2018, will also be expanded across England next year. This programme will cover Easter, Summer and Christmas in 2021, and will be available to children in every local authority in England.

Amazing

Dear Parents and Carers,

I wanted to share with you how proud I am of every child and teacher in the school. I have just been around the school, socially distanced, and I have been greeted by smiles and learning everywhere I have gone- even with our year 6s learning equivalent fractions! Thank you for trusting us with your children, and I can assure you the atmosphere in school today is amazing. I am so proud.

Make sure you go onto SeeSaw to see the work for yourself and share some likes.

Thank you,

Mr Fox

School open

The government continues to prioritise the wellbeing and long-term futures of our children and young people and will not be closing early years settings, schools, further education (FE) colleges or universities. It remains very important for children and young people to attend, to support their wellbeing and education and help working parents and guardians. Senior clinicians still advise that school is the best place for children to be, and so they should continue to go to school. Schools have implemented a range of protective measures to make them safe.

Childcare or education is one of the exceptions that children, young people and parents and carers can leave their home for.

We will see you tomorrow.

School Open

Despite the national Lockdown Tomorrow, school will be open.

We are still waiting for further guidance, however a few things remain clear:

When dropping off and collecting: Please spread out and stand two meters apart.

Telford and Wrekin is also promoting the wearing of masks when dropping off and collecting. Please support us with this.

Please stand back when children need to walk past.

If you or anyone in you family develops symptoms then you must remain at home and get a test.
